The Benefits of Using Scape Design

When You procure the Scape System for your new building or extension, the Scape Design team can support Your own in-house design team (standard services) or we can provide architectural and/or engineering services.   The Scape System together with the Scape Design team provide:

Improved Efficiency

Your design team is provided with comprehensive documentation to enable the initial design and full working drawing / specification package to be prepared quickly and to a high standard. The earlier Scape Design is involved at the sketch scheme stage the greater the efficiency.

Speed of Construction

The use of a steel frame, pre-finished components and an emphasis on dry construction techniques leads to a short construction period.

Value for Money

The System offers value for money for clients and building owners. The cost is refined and constantly under examination while quality is maintained at a high standard.  Components are selected for their low maintenance costs ensuring that value for money is enjoyed throughout the life of the building. Scape has been refined in detail and specification to maximise value in the finished project.

Poor Ground

The structural design features of the System allow buildings to be constructed on site with low bearing pressure.

This enables these sites to be developed without resorting to expensive ground treatments.

Quality and Reliability

At the design stage, on site and in use, quality and reliability are prime considerations in the design of the system. Repeated uses which feed back to incremental development of the details gives the System proven performance.

Sustainability

Less waste of materials by using prefabrication, ‘dry’ techniques and efficient layouts. Steel weight and use of materials generally is minimised. However, there is still considerable thermal mass in the concrete floors that can be used to regulate internal temperatures. The provision of high levels of natural daylight and ventilation is possible and actively encouraged. Lifecycle costs are considered in the specification of materials. Ambitious fabric U value standards and air-tightness performance levels have now been set to minimise energy in use.  A process of monitoring building energy performance has also been commenced.

Meeting the Building Regulations

The System has an LABC Type Approval for many model structural solutions (single to four storey) as well as for all of the drawing details and specifications which covers many aspects of the Building Regulations. This can greatly simplify the structural design and approval process.

Design Flexibility

Using the System properly involves embracing a rigorous approach but there is potential for enormous variation in the design concept and execution of the building. Complex plan shapes and building forms can be accommodated but simplicity is usually the key in terms of detailing and overall economy. ‘Non-Scape’ elements can easily be incorporated alongside standard elements.
