Scape, The System

Scape Design utilises a highly innovative approach to building design which uses pre-design and standardisation to speed up the process while providing unique and appropriate solutions for every project.

Advantages the Scape System

Flexibility - The Scape System approach is based on a series of standard components which can be arranged in a wide variety of ways. There is a simple 1.8m grid which is the basis for the multiples of the structural spans (currently up to an impressive 21.6m) and the structural bay spacings (perimeter columns and beams are generally spaced at 3.6m centres). The grid approach allows all elements to be brought together simply and coherently. Bespoke spacings are also possible where required.

Detailing - Architectural and structural engineering design and detailing are currently included and we have developed a series of successful environmental strategies for different building types and configurations. The Scape System is suited to buildings up to 4 storeys, mainly in rectangular blocks. We also have a standardised curved block that gives many more possibilities in terms of plan configurations.

Reducing Waste - We continually refine and update our approach and is committed to minimising the use of all resources to provide highly efficient and sustainable buildings, both in terms of construction and in energy used after completion. See Scape Zero

Standardised Concepts - The Scape System has a wide-ranging Design Menu’ which describes standard whole building designs. There is some overlap with Sunesis and Scape Zero concepts but there are some additional designs which further demonstrate the potential of the Scape System.

Collaboration - We can provide a full architectural and structural engineering service for Scape System projects, or we can work in a supporting role to other design organisations depending on client requirements. We have successfully worked in collaboration with in-house local authority design teams and private practice teams. The Scape System approach is very simple and we can brief external teams at the outset and continue to support them through the life of the project.
Design Guide
Starting Strong - The Scape System approach works best when the Scape Design team is brought to the project at an early stage, so if you have a project in mind please contact us as soon as possible. The Scape Design Guide is available for Client in-house design teams to use.

Procurement Choice - The Scape standard system can be procured direct from Scape using your own choice of contractor or in conjunction with one or more of our procurement frameworks which shortens time to site and reduces costs even further. Contact the Scape Design Team to start your Scape System project.

Standard Whole Building Models
Scape, in conjunction with its partners, has developed a variety of whole building designs to respond to client requirements (Sunesis). These concepts offer simple and efficient fixed cost solutions which can be procured, designed and constructed very quickly. Standardised classroom extension concepts have also been developed (Connect).
