St Luke's Primary School, Bury
Client and designer: Bury MDC
The objective of the project is to extend the existing buildings to enable part
of the school to be brought on to one site. The school being evacuated is to be
demolished and the site landscaped as a facility for the school.
The scheme comprises two new CLASP extensions to the existing traditionally built 70’s school together with internal alterations. The planning of the project has been constrained by a tight site, known to have bad ground.
One extension is single storey and contains a centre for foundation and early
years children. The plan is open with separate accommodation for offices, toilets
and the like. The second extension is two storey providing four classrooms with
stair and a lift.
The ground was stabilised in readiness for the foundation. The Buildings were constructed using standard CLASP details. The roofs were curved with aluminium standing seam roofs on purlins. The external walls were constructed in brickwork and an insulated composite panel. Windows utilised the Kawneer aluminium profiles.
A lightweight CLASP frame was used on both extensions. It was the first scheme
fabricated and erected for the Consortium by Traditional Structures Ltd.
Internally partitions meet the acoustic performance requirements of BB93.
